The University of Ibadan will host a highly anticipated lecture by Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and FIFA Council Member, as he delivers the 2024 Personality Guest Lecture for the Faculty of Education.

Slated for Tuesday, October 29, 2024, Pinnick will address the critical topic “The Challenges of Sports Infrastructure and Maintenance in Nigeria: Prospects for Podium Performance.” The event will take place at Trenchard Hall at 11 a.m.

With a deep-rooted background in sports management, Pinnick, who also serves on the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football, is expected to share his insights on the urgent need for robust sports infrastructure in Nigeria and its impact on competitive performance.

The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Olufemi Adegbesan, emphasized that Pinnick’s extensive experience and his dedication to youth development through well-maintained infrastructure make him an ideal speaker.

This lecture forms part of the Faculty of Education’s town-gown initiative, aimed at bridging academia and public discourse on national issues. Professor Kayode Adebowale, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, will lead the university’s delegation at the event, with significant attendance from the sports community, including National Sports Commission Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

Pinnick’s lecture is expected to draw a diverse audience, ranging from academia and sports leaders to youth and industry stakeholders.
