Nigeria’s national power grid has collapsed again, marking the second occurrence within 24 hours and causing widespread outages across the country.

The first collapse took place on Monday evening, significantly disrupting both domestic and business activities nationwide.

Despite extensive investments worth billions of naira in the energy sector, Nigeria continues to struggle with unreliable electricity supply.

In a statement on Tuesday, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed another grid failure, less than a day after Monday’s incident.

Dear Valued Customer, please be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17 hrs, leading to a loss of power supply across our network. We are working closely with our partners and expect a speedy restoration of the grid. Updates will be provided as soon as power is restored,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) reported that power outages experienced on Monday evening were partially restored by Tuesday morning to areas within its franchise, including parts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The country’s seat of power has been affected by several grid collapses since President Bola Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023.

Some areas, such as Deidei, Suleja, Lugbe, and Kuje, saw power restored by 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday. AEDC had earlier attributed the outage to the national grid collapse, with a statement on Monday evening confirming that the collapse occurred at approximately 6:58 p.m.

“We are working with relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid stabilizes,” the company assured its customers.
