Club Brugge’s manager, Nick Hayen, has indicated that he plans to have a thoughtful discussion with midfielder Raphael Onyedika following the player’s red card in the team’s recent 3-1 defeat to AC Milan on Tuesday night.
Raphael Onyedika received the red card just five minutes before halftime due to a poor challenge that left the referee with no choice but to send him off. This incident marks the second time in four appearances in the Champions League that the defensive midfielder has been dismissed, raising significant concerns about his discipline on the pitch.
Hayen expressed his surprise at the decision, stating, “We were, of course, surprised that Raphael got the red card. While we can discuss it as a matter of bad luck, it’s unfortunate that the referee’s ruling didn’t go in our favor.”
Reflecting on the implications of such disciplinary actions, Hayen emphasized the importance of addressing these mistakes. “We will have a calm talk about it on Wednesday. At Club Brugge, we pride ourselves on being a supportive environment. We don’t abandon our players in times of difficulty,” he said.
He added, “Our objective is to work together to find a constructive solution. However, Raphael must acknowledge that errors like this need to be rectified in his game to avoid future incidents.”
