Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has denounced Nigerian soldiers involved in bribery or extortion, labelling them as betrayers of public trust.

In a recent interview with CGTN Hausa, Musa emphasized the Army’s dedication to protecting lives and property, urging troops to refrain from actions that could damage their reputation or alienate the public.

He encouraged the public to report any illegal acts by military personnel, reassuring them of the Army’s commitment to their protection and the nation’s well-being.

Speaking in Hausa, Musa advised soldiers, “Let them stop whatever they are doing that will make the masses to hate us.

“They should know that their job is to protect lives and property and that is what we are supposed to do.

“And it will be unfair if we are the ones collecting bribes on the streets, then we have betrayed the masses. It is improper. And whenever anyone sees military personnel engaging in any illegal act, they should inform the authorities concerned
.”

He assured that the Army has the full backing of both the Nigerian public and the government, adding, “The Army should believe that both Nigerians and the government support them. And we want Nigerians to believe that the Army is working to protect them.

“We will not do what will harm the country or put the country into shame
.”
