Former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mark Jacob, has expressed cautious optimism about the intervention of the party’s governors in its ongoing internal crisis, while also voicing concern that key underlying issues remain unaddressed.

Naija News reports that the PDP Governors Forum had on Tuesday waded into the crisis rocking the opposition party. The PDP Governors Forum, through its Chairman Governor Bala Mohammed, announced that the crisis rocking the party has been resolved and all suspensions are nullified.

In an interview on Aries Television’s “NewsNight” program, Jacob acknowledged the positive step taken by the governors but pointed out that deeper challenges, such as the prolonged tenure of the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, have yet to be resolved.

Yes, the governors have stepped in, but the core issues are still lingering. The party is controlled by different factions,” Jacob remarked, stressing the need for a more comprehensive resolution.

Jacob further criticized those disregarding the party’s constitution, accusing them of undermining the PDP’s stability.

“It’s unfortunate that those neglecting the party’s constitutional framework are contributing to its decline,” he said.

He also lamented the PDP’s inability to fulfill its role as the country’s main opposition party and proposed that funding should come from the grassroots membership.

Members should contribute by paying their dues, ensuring that no single individual can dominate or control the party,” Jacob emphasized.

In the meantime, the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Yayari Mohammed, has remained silent about the outcomes of the peace efforts initiated by the governors.

Attempts to contact both Yayari Mohammed and National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba were unsuccessful, as their phone lines remained unreachable, and there were no responses to text messages as of 9:00 p.m. last night.
