The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have booked a place in the finals of the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating Niger 3-1 on Sunday evening in Togo, Sports247 reports.
The Flying fought from a goal down to score three goals as Jeptha Clinton got a brace with Alonge Olalekan putting the icing deep into stoppage time
Nigeria conceded in the fifteen minutes against the run of play but Jeptha Clinton restored parity for the flying Eagles in the 35th minute to end the first half 1-1.
The Nigeria U20 flew out of the block in the second looking for the lead and their prayer was finally answered ten minutes into the second half through the scorer of the first goal, as jeptha Clinton gave Nigeria the deserved lead.
The Nigeriens were becoming more desperate looking for an equaliser, by throwing more men upfront and took full advantage of their bigger size and physicality but the more technically better Nigerian side prevailed and kept the Nigeriens at bay .
Frustration are begin to set in for the Niger, as they are coming out in their numbers desperately looking for a goal that can put the game into the penalty shouts as the game dragged into the added time.
Alonge Olalekan came through for Nigeria in the 90+5 minutes , he latched on to a through ball from the middle whicj freed him on goal , and made no mistake from close range to take the game beyond the Niger.
Nigeria will now have an opportunity to defend the title won two years ago against fierce regional rival, Ghana who also defeated Cote d’ivoire in the first semi final by 2-1 .
The two finalists will represent the WAFU B region at the 2025 CAF AFCON which will in turn serve as the 2025 FIFA World Cup qualifier where the semi finalists will qualify for the World Cup.
