Former boxing champion, Prince Naseem Hamed, has urged Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua to consider retiring from the sport after suffering his fourth professional defeat.
Recall that on Saturday, September 21, Anthony Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight world champion, suffered a 5th-round knockout defeat at the hands of fellow Brit, Daniel Dubois. This marked Joshua’s 4th major defeat in his boxing career.
Despite his recent defeat, Joshua remains determined to continue fighting and has expressed his desire to persevere in the sport.
His promoter, Eddie Hearn, believes that Joshua still possesses the skills to compete at the highest level and has hinted at the possibility of a rematch or a major fight in Saudi Arabia under the Riyadh Season banner.
On the contrary, Prince Hamed emphasized the importance of bowing out gracefully, highlighting the physical demands and risks associated with continuing in such a challenging sport, particularly after taking heavy blows.
“Whether he can or he can’t, I’d prefer him not to”, the former boxing champion told iFL TV. “He’s had his day in the sun like we all have. He’s done great; he won amazing world titles; he’s defended them; he’s earned his dough. Listen, he should bow out gracefully, and that’s it, done.”
