The Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has suspended all mining activities within the state due to an influx of bandits and negative elements in the mining-related activities.
Naija News reports that the state Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu, in an interview with journalists, said the decision to suspend mining activities was reached at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday presided over by Governor Ododo.
Gegu said the state Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources will not condone any form of infiltration or illegal mining activities.
He said, “This is to enable the state to have genuine mining data. A total clean-up of the sector will go a long way in minimising or eradicating criminalities in totality.
“The state will work by the rules of the games and will collaborate with the Federal Mines Officers and the security agencies.
“The state will not condone any form of infiltration or illegal activities.
“We implore all mining companies to bear with the state in these circumstances because we must curb insecurity.”
Ododo Hiding Yahaya Bello In Kogi Govt House, We Have Not Cut Any Deal For Him
In other news, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has accused the Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, of hiding his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, at the state Government House.
The EFCC said that through his actions, Ododo has made himself an accomplice in crime even though he enjoys immunity as a sitting governor.
The allegations were made on Thursday by EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, during an interview with Arise TV.
He also accused Bello of insincerity and evasion for failing to present himself before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, despite a court order.
Speaking on the appearance of the former Governor at the car park of the EFCC headquarters on September 18, Uwujaren said Bello only did a media stunt targeted at deceiving members of the public and carrying out a sinister objective.
