One of the notorious bandits’ leaders terrorizing Kaduna State and its environs, Kachalla Tukur Sharme, has been reportedly killed.
Reports revealed that Sharme was behind the abduction of 121 students from Bethel Baptist High School in the state three years back.
However, he and other criminals were killed in a violent conflict with another gang recently.
A statement from the Kaduna State government confirmed that in addition to Sharme, two other criminals from a competing gang were killed in a deadly shootout, which allowed some of the kidnapped individuals to break free from their captors.
The state government has reported that the fight took place over the weekend at a place known as ‘Hambakko’, located in the Rijana and Kaso Forests, which cover parts of Kachia, Chikun, and Kajuru local government areas in the state.
The Minister of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, stated, based on intelligence reports, that five criminals were wounded in the fight and were hiding in the area, looking for medical help for their injuries.
The announcement clarified that Sharme, a notorious criminal who had previously killed many people, abducted hundreds, and stolen countless herds of cattle, was defeated in a confrontation with another gang.
Sharme had often narrowly escaped capture by security forces and remained a target before being shot dead by the rival terrorists.
“Sharme and his gang of bandits were largely responsible for attacks, killings and kidnappings in Millenium City, Maraban Rido, Kujama, Kajuru, Maro, villages in Kateri general area and other locations in adjoining LGAs of Kagarko, Kachia and Birnin Gwari.
“His was in addition to his criminal acts in neighbouring States of Katsina and Niger which were also left reeling from the waves of his terrorism,” the statement from the Kaduna State government reads.
It added: “One of the most heinous acts perpetrated by Kachalla Sharme was the kidnapping of 121 students of Bethel Baptist High School, Kujama, Kaduna State on 5th July 2021. In the course of repelling Sharme and his gang of terrorists, two personnel of the security forces paid the supreme price.
“The State government, therefore, urged residents of Rijana, Kaso, Kasarami, Jaka da-Rabi, Kajuru and Dutse general areas and beyond, not to render any assistance to suspicious persons seeking treatment for gun wounds and “contact the nearest security forces or reach the Kaduna State Security Operations Room on the following lines: 09034000060
