The United States has said Israel’s right to defend herself and its people will always be supported by America.
The Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, stated this on Saturday, in a statement. Austin said the events taking place in Lebanon were in line with Israel’s right to defend her city and its people.
Naija News reported that Israel carried out a series of bombardments of Lebanon’s city of Beirut. Israel also reportedly hacked and caused the explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies alleged to be used by Hezbollah.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, stated that its operations in Lebanon would continue until Israeli citizens held hostage by the Hezbollah group are released and returned back to Israel.
On his X handle, the US Secretary of Defence wrote, “I spoke twice with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant yesterday (Friday) about events in Lebanon. I expressed my full support for Israel’s right to defend itself and its people against Iranian backed terrorist groups.
“I stressed that the United States is determined to prevent Iran and Iranian-backed partners and proxies from exploiting the situation or expanding the conflict. I made it clear that the United States remains postured to protect U.S. forces and facilities in the region and committed to the defense of Israel.”
