Manchester United assistant coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the interim head coach of the Red Devils following the recent dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
This significant change in leadership comes after a disappointing start to the current season, which saw Manchester United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table.
Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford, which began in April 2022, came to an abrupt end after two and a half years marked by underwhelming performances.
Despite having led the club to notable successes—including triumphs in the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024—Ten Hag faced mounting pressure as results failed to meet expectations in the early stages of the ongoing campaign.
In the summer, Ten Hag had been reinforced by Manchester United’s new co-owners, INEOS, who provided the necessary backing for a squad overhaul.
He was granted a contract extension that would have kept him with the club until June 2026. However, the recent lack of results ultimately led to his firing, creating an urgent need for a change in direction.
Van Nistelrooy, a legendary forward for the club during his playing days, now steps into the role with the hope of stabilizing the team’s fortunes and steering them back up the league standings.
