The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Nentawe Yilwatda, recently briefed Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on the status of minors who were previously detained for protesting and later released by order of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

After a closed-door meeting at the State House in Abuja, Yilwatda informed the media that these minors have been safely returned to their home states under the care of their respective State Governments.

Yilwatda was among the seven ministers inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on November 4, 2024.

A statement from the First Lady’s spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, revealed that Yilwatda’s visit aimed to strengthen collaboration with the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), particularly on poverty reduction efforts.

Yilwatda praised Senator Tinubu’s dedication to supporting vulnerable groups across Nigeria.

“Our goal is to establish partnerships that will reduce poverty, especially among vulnerable populations like women, a key focus of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Yilwatda remarked.

Highlighting the importance of unified efforts, he said, “Collaboration is vital in fighting poverty in Nigeria and expanding humanitarian services to reach those in need.”

The minister also confirmed that the minors involved in recent protests have returned to their states, where further support will be provided.

He added that his ministry is coordinating with the wives of state governors to address the children’s educational needs.

Yilwatda emphasized his commitment to advancing the Tinubu administration’s humanitarian goals, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda to reduce poverty nationwide.

He expressed confidence that partnering with RHI on outreach programs would increase the ministry’s impact on women, youth, and children across Nigeria.
