Last Weekend, September 14 to 15, a couple of Nigerian players abroad gave a very account of themselves at their respective clubs and some of those footballers are highlighted below.
Sunday, September 15:
One of the most outstanding Nigerian players abroad last weekend was Ademola Lookman who played his first Italian Serie A game for Atalanta this season and scored a goal and provided an assist in their 3-2 win over Fiorentina.
In France, Moses Simon contributed with an assist for Nantes, while Akor Adams played the full game for Montpellier.
In Germany, Frank Onyeka marked his debut for Augsburg with an assist in their 3-1 win over St. Pauli.
In England, Josh Maja provided an assist for West Brom’s 2-0 win at Portsmouth, and Semi Ajayi helped his team to their fourth win of the season.
Cyriel Dessers provided an assist for Rangers’ win at Dundee United, and Wilfred Ndidi impressed for Leicester with two assists.
In Spain, Rasheedat Ajibade was an unused substitute for Atletico Madrid Women as they started their season with a 2-1 win.
Saturday, September 14:
One of the top-performing Nigerian players abroad last weekend was Ola Aina, who plays for Nottingham Forest and performed exceptionally well in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. He played the full 90 minutes and effectively stopped Liverpool’s attacks, especially from Luis Diaz.
Aina made a critical goal-line clearance denying Diaz in the first half. Despite Liverpool’s dominance, Nottingham Forest secured the win with a spectacular goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Aina’s solid defensive display was instrumental in Forest’s victory. His compatriot, Taiwo Awoniyi, was an unused substitute.
In another match, Tom Dele-Bashiru helped Watford secure a 1-1 draw against Coventry City in the Championship with a well-taken goal.
Victor Boniface was one of the standout Nigerian Players Abroad as the German Bundesliga took center stage last weekend. He had an outstanding game for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring two goals and providing an assist in their 4-1 victory against Hoffenheim.
His performance was crucial in helping the team secure the win and bounce back from a previous suspension.
Moving to Spain, Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide played crucial roles in UD Tenerife’s 4-1 win against Sevilla. Monday scored two goals and claimed an assist, while Babajide scored a long-range goal.
In Belgium, Yira Sor’s stellar performance helped Genk to a thrilling 3-2 win at Cercle Brugge. Sor scored a goal and provided assists for two more.
While in Turkey, Victor Osimhen had a great debut match as he made seven shots on goal, a Turkish Super Lig record. He provided an assist as his new club, Galatasaray beat Rizespor 5-0.
