Flying Eagles of Nigeria are in a make or break encounter with Cote’d’ ivoire U20 side at 4 pm today inside the main bowl of the Municipal Stadium, Lome, Togo In the ongoing WAFU B U20 tourney, Sports247 reports.
The Nigeria U20 boys needed to score two goals and defeat their Ivorians counterparts after they lost their first match against Burkina Faso by 1-0 while the Burkina babies lost to the Ivorians
Only two teams will proceed from the group, this proportion left the Flying Eagles of Nigeria with no option but to win the game or exit the competition in Lome, Togo.
According to the media officer, Sharrif Abdullahi attached to the team, the players had a team meeting on Monday and resolved to bounce back from their opening day defeat which left them in a risky situation of not making the Semi Final.
He also confirmed that the technical bench are not leaving any stone unturned as the boys are in high spirits to get the needed results.
“The spirit in the camp is extremely high; the boys know what is at stake is either a win or nothing.” Sheriff Abdullahi said.
The soft spoken journalist says he expected the boys to draw inspiration from the previous experience when the team were in a similar win or burst position and still able to get the job done.
“We’ve had the same setback in Egypt, and at the end of the day we bounced back and qualified for the World Cup in Argentina. It happened to us during the Africa Games, where we lost the first game to Senegal and bounced back against Uganda. It has happened not once, not twice, so it is left for us to draw some inspiration.” Shariff Abdullah explained.
A passage into the Semi final will give the flying Eagles a chance to qualify for the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations due for Egypt as the two finalists of the WAFU B U20 Championship will be a book ticket to the CAF youth championship.
