The Labour Party (LP) Lagos State governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has lamented that ships come into Nigeria bearing goods from other countries but leave the shores of Nigeria empty.

Naija News reports that the politician made this known in a post via his Instagram page.

GRV said the empty ships leaving Nigeria are why unemployment is rising, and the country’s currency continues to lose value.

The LP chieftain stated that Nigerians must do all they can to boost productivity at local and national levels.

He wrote: “For years, I have sat at this table and looked at ships come in and leave the ports. Whilst the number of ships in our harbour has greatly reduced, Watching a ship leave a country populated by 200million people, EMPTY is extremely painful.

“Not only does this contribute to the high cost of shipping to Nigeria, it explains why unemployment is rising and why our currency continues to lose value.

“With our population, ships should not be leaving empty and we must do all we can to boost productivity at local and national levels. Consumption to production is not a catch phrase, it is our only way out.”
