The Kogi State House of Assembly has called for the sack of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede.
The State Assembly accused the EFCC under Olukoyede’s leadership of masterminding an assassination attempt on the life of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Naija News recalls Bello has been in a running confrontation with the EFCC since leaving office, including an alleged ₦ 80.2 billion money laundering charge.
However, the Kogi State House of Assembly, during plenary on Monday, said the EFCC is carrying out “unjustified assault” on the Kogi State Government Lodge, characterizing it as an affront to Governor Ahmed Usman and the people of Kogi.
The Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusuf, while delivering the House’s resolution, expressed that, “The House formally categorizes the April 17 and September 18 incidents as assassination attempts on the former Governor, and by extension, a threat to the life of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
“The unprovoked attack on the Governor’s Lodge and the firing of live rounds within a diplomatic residential zone further demonstrate that the EFCC has fully marinated in a sense of its own importance and power and now considers itself not only above the law but unanswerable to anyone or institution for its actions.”
“Because the EFCC Chairman has shown constantly gross incompetence, the House has resolved that the President should relieve him of his appointment with immediate effect and replace him with a competent officer who will give Mr. President’s crusade for the rule of law the needed effectiveness.”
It would be recalled that there was drama last week Wednesday when the media team of Bello said the former Kogi State Governor honoured the invitation of the EFCC by appearing at its headquarters in Abuja but the EFCC, through its spokesperson, denied having Bello in its custody.
The anti-graft agency also said the former Governor remains a wanted man.
